The city appealed to the Ministry of Finance to allocate another 20 million euros of credit and grant funds for these needs. In Chernivtsi they plan to buy up to 50 trolleybuses for 30 million euros. Of this, € 10 million has already been earmarked for assistance from the European Investment Bank. And the city is asking the Ministry of Finance for another 20 million euros. During a live broadcast on Facebook, Chernivtsi Mayor Roman Klichuk spoke about plans to upgrade the city’s public transport fleet.
“None of the trolleybuses have been purchased this year yet, because the budget has allocated funds for them. Today, Chernivtsi is in the second queue to receive both loans and grants from the European Investment Bank. From the very beginning, the amount was 10 million euros. But now we have submitted documents to the Ministry of Finance to increase this amount by 20 million euros. If the city still receives these funds, it will allow to buy up to about 50 trolleybuses. Therefore, we hope and do everything possible for the city to receive these funds, “Roman Klichuk said.
In addition to plans to purchase trolleybuses, Chernivtsi also wants to develop municipal vehicles. To do this, they plan to lease new buses. “At the next session, the program for the purchase of buses will be considered. I hope the deputies of the city council will accept it and it will give us the opportunity to lease buses in the shortest possible time. And thus we will solve most of the issues with transportation. There are many complaints about private carriers. Therefore, I think that the purchase of buses and trolleybuses will definitely solve this issue, “the mayor added.
Earlier it was reported that the Chernivtsi City Council plans to buy 5 new autonomous trolleybuses and 10 used trolleybuses at the expense of the city budget this year, including on the basis of financial leasing.
