Kyiv,\nUkraine (December 12, 2019)<\/em> \u2013 Medical equipment leasing has the potential\nto accelerate health care reform in Ukraine, create positive health outcomes\nfor Ukrainians, and support small and medium private clinics and hospitals to\nupgrade their diagnostic services. This is the conclusion of a joint USAID\nFinancial Sector Transformation Project and Ukrainian Union of Lessors market\nsurvey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey provides a profile of the\nmedical equipment market in Ukraine and places it in the context of global\nhealth care trends. It notes that there is an increase in small, private health\ncare facilities in Ukraine due to recent government reforms, but that these\nclinics and hospitals often lack the finance to upgrade technology. Most of\nthese enterprises are operating on their own capital, without access to bank\nloans or other types of finance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalia Pedos, Leasing Market\nDevelopment Expert of the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project, said,\n\u201cThe market for medical equipment will continue to expand globally and in\nUkraine over the next five years.  This\nconclusion is supported by both global and Ukrainian trends: aging and growing\npopulations, exponential advances in innovative but expensive digital\ntechnologies, growing emphasis on preventative medicine and small clinics. The\nmedical equipment market in Ukraine in 2018 was an estimated USD $405.8 million.\nAlmost $400 million of this market was imports. The sustainability of this\nmarket requires financing, and leasing is a good option.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oleksandr Koscheev,\nChairman of the Board, the Association \u201cUkrainian Union of Lessors\u201d (UUL),\nsaid, \u201cSmall health care facilities have a common problem: lack of access to\nfinance for active expansion. Bank loans are hard to get and expensive, the\ndomestic capital market is shallow, and there is a limited choice of\ninstruments to raise investment capital. Our members should take a close look\nat this market opportunity. Perhaps we can work with the government and the\ninternational financial institutions to design some programs for dedicated\nfunds to support medical equipment leasing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
