In Ukraine, about 20% of cars are sold on credit

Despite the growth of car loans, the share of cars sold on credit remains unchanged.

This was reported by the Financial Club in the project ” 50 leading banks of Ukraine – 2020 “.

Traditionally in Ukraine about 20% of cars are sold on credit. 2019 is no exception. New car sales grew by almost 15% last year, but the car loan segment grew even faster. Clients were primarily interested in partnership programs with car dealers and car manufacturers, which allowed to obtain a loan for a large amount at a lower interest rate (from 0.01% per annum). However, as before, the minimum rate often provides a down payment of 50% of the cost of the car and a short loan period – up to 12-24 months.

Last year, bankers recorded a recovery in the segment of car loans. According to the director of the retail business department of Oschadbank Valeria Malakhova, in 2019 Oschadbank issued more than 3,600 car loans worth more than UAH 1.7 billion. This is twice as much as in 2018, and ten times more than in 2017.

The average loan amount is about 500 thousand UAH. “The car sales market worked in tandem with lending, attractive loan products helped car dealers to stimulate demand and allowed consumers to expand opportunities when choosing a car, so car loans were needed and relevant,” – says Valeria Malakhova.

A similar trend is observed in Credit Agricole Bank. “The most popular among our customers are loans to buy new cars. In 2019, such loans showed another record growth – we managed to issue car loans worth over UAH 3 billion. They are followed by cash loans for various purposes: large purchases, repairs, travel, lending, buying a new car, then – credit cards and mortgages, “- says the head of marketing department of Credit Agricole Bank Tatiana Shapoval.
